The Greene County Rams football team will be looking to rebound after a three-win season a year ago.
Before last season, the Rams were coming off of back-to-back eight-win seasons and hadn’t lost more than five games since the 2017-18 season. Last year, the Rams finished with a record of 3-5 and missed out on postseason play for the first time since that same 2017-18 season, when they finished 1-8.
The Rams come into the season with the same head coach, Caden Duncan, who mentions that the Rams had a renewed focus in the offseason, one of getting back to the Ram standard of football.
“Our focus has been on resetting our standard. Whether we’re talking about strength training, fundamentals, or just playing physical football, we want to reset our standard and get back to playing Ram football.” Duncan said.
The Rams have nine seniors on the team this year who will be leaders, including captains Crew Conner, Patrick Graham, Bryce Habben, Camden Jacobs, Kamden Kinne, and Nick Stream, as well as Marcus Ball, Braeden Turner, and Camden Strennen, who are playing their last season with the Rams.
“I appreciate the work that all of our seniors have done over the years, and I really want them to give this everything they have so that they don’t have any regrets. I hope they have a great year and are proud to be Rams.” Duncan said.
There are also plenty of young players that have found their way onto the Rams team this year as there are 10 freshmen and 10 sophomores. These players will look to gain experience and be a building block for the future Rams team.
The Rams will kick off their regular season at Linduska Field in Jefferson against the Carroll Tigers on Friday at 7 pm, looking to improve upon their 3-5 finish from a season ago as Duncan mentions they want to get back to playing for district championships and back in the playoffs.
